Why UMAL doesn’t provide this Cover

If you are travelling abroad, your staff and/or students may find themselves in a situation where they need local support and legal representation to be provided. UMAL can’t provide those services, so it may be appropriate for you to buy a Travel Legal Expenses policy which not only covers the costs of those services (subject to policy terms and conditions), but also access to local recommended legal support.

What Travel Legal Expenses Covers:

  • Personal Injury – costs for you to pursue a damages claim for physical bodily injury caused by the act of another party during the course of a journey
  • Criminal Defence – costs for the defence of a criminal prosecution once you receive a summons accusing you of a criminal offence occurring during a journey
  • Travel Contract Disputes – costs for you to recover money you have lost as a result of a breach of any travel or accommodation contract in respect of a journey

What Travel Legal Expenses Does Not Cover including:

  • Personal Injury
  • Injuries suffered on the policyholder’s property
  • Clinical negligence

  • Criminal Defence

  • Claims involving a motoring offence, an assault or a sexual offence, fraud, dishonesty, criminal damage or tax proceedings
  • If you are charged under the Corporate Manslaughter or Corporate Homicide Act 2007
  • Claims caused by seepage, pollution or contamination of any kind
  • Travel Contract Disputes
  • Hire purchase, credit agreements, insurance or financial securities
  • Contracts of employment
