Anglia Ruskin University

There has been some inaccurate reporting in the media regarding one of our Members, Anglia Ruskin University, and the settlement reached with a former student, Fiona Pok Wong. We wish to set the record straight.

Ms Wong’s longstanding litigation against the University was settled with our agreement for purely commercial reasons and without any admission or underlying suggestion of liability. Ms Wong’s claims lacked merit. Twice already her legal claims had been rejected and costs awarded against her by the Court. Subsequently, an oversight by solicitors lead to a commercial offer of settlement being made without prior reference to and agreement from the University. The University have made clear that they would not have agreed to that settlement offer if they had been aware of it before it was issued. As the University has stated and we agree, Ms Wong’s remaining claim had little merit and it would probably have failed, just as all her other claims had failed.
